Legion Fish Fry changed; members to serve brats, hamburgers at Fareway Aug. 13
The Vinton American Legion fish fry scheduled for August 12 has been canceled due to damage to the Legion Hall. Plan on attending the September 9 fish fry. We sustained damage to the roof and venting structures which will shut us down for events till repaired.
The American Legion will hold a brat and hamburger feed in the Fareway parking lot on August 13 from 10AM til 2PM.
2nd Annual Kids Triathlon
The Kids Triathlon will be held Saturday, July 30th. Check-in begins at 7:15 and ends at 7:45 am. The team and individual race will begin at 8 am. Kids will swim, run, and bike. There are three age divisions and distances.

Cardboard Boat Races July 30 at pool; sailors urged to bring their vessels
The Cardboard Boat Races will be held at the Vinton Swimming Pool, Saturday, July 30th from 7-8 pm. Bring your own boat constructed of only cardboard and duct tape to see if you have the fastest one in town. Please visit the Vinton Swimming Pool front desk or the Vinton Recreation Center for rules on racing and boat construction.
Generous Donor Gives $50,000.00 dollars to Eastern Iowa Honor Flight
Eastern Iowa Honor Flight is a 501C3 charity which sends World War II Veterans of the greater Cedar Rapids area, free of charge, to Washington D.C. to see the memorial built in their honor in 2004. We are dedicated to getting out as many veterans as we can as they are passing away at a rate of over 1000 per/day nationally.
Nothing Compares to Iowa State Fair's Free Grounds Entertainment
Iowa State Fair's free grounds entertainment line-up will fill the Fairgrounds with family fun August 11-21. These grounds acts are just part of the more than half a million dollars of entertainment available to Fairgoers free with gate admission. "Nothing Compares" to this mix of art, music, comedy and animals that is sure to provide fun for all ages!
As the Fair prepares to celebrate 100 years of the Butter Cow, several grounds entertainment artists will pay tribute to the buttery Iowa icon.
More Thrills with Midway Discounts at the 2011 Iowa State Fair
"Nothing Compares" to the heart-stopping thrill rides and entertainment on the Midway at the 2011 Iowa State Fair. With a variety of amusement savings packages, Fairgoers can enjoy even more rides. The Fair is set August 11-21.
Fairgoers can save big at the Midway by planning ahead for this year's Fair. Purchase a set of five Midway tickets for $13; each ticket is good for one ride.
Friends of the Center Point Library holding book sale
Saturday July 16, Friends of the Library used Book Sale, 8 to 4, in the Library Basement. Books 25 cents and a dime. Friends t shirts will be on sale at a special Book Sale price of $5. Book sale continues during Library hours Monday and Tuesday the 18th and 19th. On Saturday July 23 a $5 admission buys you all the books you can carry out.
Vinton Community Band to hold concert at Center Point's Depot Museum
Sunday July 17, Vinton Community Band concert at the Center Point Depot Museum at 6 p.m. Rain or shine. Bring your lawn chairs. The Center Point Historical Society museum will be open from 1 p.m. through the concert and afterwards. Admission is free. The Historical Society is holding a bake sale in conjunction with the concert.

Update for Lutheran Home Golf Outing
Due to the storm damage in Vinton and to our Lutheran Home Campus we have decided to cancel the golf outing. If anyone would like to donate his/her tee time and help us with storm damage relief we would greatly appreciate any help and volunteers. Lunch will be provided by the Vinton Country Club at 12:00.
